Tubes are a great alternative even for food and liquids, as long as you use a proper liner.
Food-Safe Packaging Alternatives
Certain products require specific protection, particularly when it comes to food safety. Tubes are available in various forms that are suitable for holding dry food, liquids, or items that need extra care, like fresh coffee, cosmetics, or supplement powders. For these types of products, it's essential to use food-grade safe tubes that provide the necessary protection from humidity and other environmental factors.
If your product requires additional safeguarding, you can enhance the protection by using a liner and a food-safe lid.
Liner Options
There are generally three types of liners available:
- Paper (compressed paper lining inside the tube)
- PE (Polyethylene)
- Aluminum
Both compressed paper and PE liners are often invisible inside the tube, making it difficult to distinguish between the two. The PE liner, available in both kraft and colored variants, has a slightly shinier finish compared to the compressed paper liner. Paper tubes with paper liners are ideal for packaging dry goods that don’t require extended shelf life. Some of our customers use these for products like tea and other dry foods. From a recyclability standpoint, we recommend using paper liners whenever possible. However, for added protection, many suppliers suggest using PE or aluminum liners, paired with a metal spigot or lid, to ensure product safety.
In our shop, you'll find excellent tube options with paper, PE, or aluminum liners, all of which can be paired with metal spigots or lids. We also offer fully customizable tubes with PE or aluminum lining, creating a food-safe, oil-resistant inner barrier for your products.
Wax Liners Wax liners are another alternative, which can be a good option for non-food products that still need extra protection, eg. such as cosmetics. We do not have any standard options available with wax liner, since this type of liner is less commonly available and can vary in price. However, we are happy to help you find the right solution with wax liner, contact us or send in a special request. Lid Alternatives
There are several options available when it comes to sealing your tube.
All three-piece tubes come with a standard paper lid. However, if you are adding a liner to make your tube food-safe, you may also want to upgrade your lid to maintain the shelf life and quality of your product. Below are some lid alternatives to consider:

Paper Lid: This is the standard lid used with most tubes.

Metal Spigot: Commonly used as an inner lid, paired with a paper lid on top, and typically combined with PE or aluminum liners for enhanced protection.

Metal Lid: Frequently used as an outer lid for one-piece tubes when a PE or aluminum liner is present. Since this lid covers the entire tube, it does not need to be combined with a paper lid on top.
